Seasonal cleansing requires seasonal foods naturally available to us in their season. This idea goes beyond culture and tradition. The foods grown during the summer months and harvested in the autumn nourish our bodies through the winter. Processed foods packaged in palatable ways to serve us any time of the year lack the nutrients necessary for wellness. Many of those processed foods are full of empty calories. The operative word there is “empty”. Those calories do not provide what our bodies need to produce and sustain healthy cells.
The Colon/Lung Cleanse Foods
Seasons change and so do our eating habits. Some of the nutrients required for the summer months are not as in demand during the autumn and winter months. Autumn allows us to gently adjust to the cooler climate. According to Traditional Chinese medicine, autumn is when the colon and lungs receive more energy than during the rest of the year. So cleansing those systems during the autumn keeps toxins moving along. In that way, we can more readily keep cold and flu symptoms at bay.
But have you noticed the wonderful variety of foods available with each season? Since this is autumn, we’ll look at the choices we have during this time of year. Pumpkins and all sorts of squashes abound either in your gardens or in the produce sections of grocery stores. But there’s more. Obviously, apples and pears find their way into our homes offering sweetness at a moment’s notice. Yet beets, broccoli and cabbage also fit into our menus during the autumn months.
